Adventures in Late Night Television

Friday night. Approx. 1 am. I'm in my apartment getting ready for a little R&R so I check out what is on television. Much to my delight, Comedy Central has Katt Williams Live (from Cincinnati) on "secret stash." If you haven't seen this, I highly recommend it, especially if you know anything about Cincinnati. For a preview click here and here and here (Sorry about the jackass who bootlegged it laughing). To make up for it.

However, the enjoyable comedy central programming is not the reason I am sharing- rather the commercials during it. Of course, as expected, the breaks were filled with the usual Joe Francis-with-sloppy-18-year-old-getting-naked-and-falling-over-DVD for $9.95. (Side Note: If you beat to that, there is something certifiably wrong with you.) I was not in the least bit shocked however. Nor was I surprised to see good ol' Ron Jeremy helping men...ummm....rise to the occasion..with Extenze. I did enjoy the new Real Sex-esque street interview with REAL Extenze users.

That was not all. Ladies listen up...Trojan, the makers of your favorite rubber, are introducing the latest innovation in your pleasure...the finger vibrator. Yes that's right...on the subway to work and need a quick pick-me-up? No problem. In the cab from the bar? You bet! Get off anywhere, anytime now! Thank God...we needed this.

I thought I had seen it all. Nope. Do you remember that singing fucking bass toy that people had? If not, here you go. Well, check this shit out. It was at this moment, that I hit rock fucking bottom. I was seriously wondering what the fuck this said about us as a society. And yes, this is why the terrorists hate our asses. And I really cannot blame them.

So I started to wonder. If you dropped a foreigner off on the American couch late at night (with some Taco Bell maybe) and this shit was the first shit they saw, what the fuck would they think about Americans? What would this shit say about our lifestyle? Would these commercials personify you (excluding the young ladies in GGW video)?

And yes, I know it's on late (which is apparently when the underbelly of society watches television in this country) but that's only because this shit cannot be shown during the day. If it could, I know we'd see a lot more Hawaiian shirt rocking Ron Jeremy.

Thinking deeper, who does watch this shit on television. Hmm, probably someone with nothing to do on a Friday. Someone who can't drink because that's really all there is to fucking do then. Hmm...I know, America's mutherfuckin' youth. Yes. I wonder if there is a direct relationship to the bullshit they watch on TV to them being so fucking stupid. Of course there is!

Another side note: Who the fuck is out there putting this crazy shit on youtube. Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled rant.

Let's see...this week saw Jamie Lynn Spears 17 year old trailer park ass give birth to a child with a Mississippi pipe-layer, Hi-OOOOOOOO. News flash, not the world's first pregnant teen. We also recently have little ho-ish celebrity fifteen year old's taking nude magazine pics and changing her legal fucking name to Hanna Montana- are you fucking kidding? Counterpoint, these are not aberrations, your child will be this fucking dumb too!

And don't fucking get me started on MTV, TMZ, BET, YOUTUBE and all that other bullshit. It's all out there-making us fucking dumb and dumber while we soak it all in.

Seriously, I know I'm sounding like my parents from back in the day, but like Katt William's, I too have become allergic to dumb shit. Maybe I'm just old school, but this shit is why American culture has become so fucked up.

First of all I want to congratulate the Pied Piper of R&B on being acquited on all charges of child fucking. Make sure to watch the clip of the week...I'm sure that's exactly how it played out in court.

Also I want to throw up Lloyd and Lil' Wayne's new video- Girls All Around the World. The song is hot, and the Hype Williams video fits perfectly. Also, in it, Lloyd not only sounds like a female (a beefer Alicia Keys maybe) but looks like one with his hair (no hate tho...I'm def no longer a closet Lloyd fan)

I must say that the coverage of this NBA Finals, which kicked off last night, has been very copious-for obvious reasons such the greatness of the 80s, which is now a retro matchup. You think in 20 years we will get excited about a retro Memphis Grizzles vs. Toronto Raptors final. Time will tell, but this finals is so hyped not because of who the teams are, but because who they were over 20 years ago.

Well, ESPN.com Page 2 has a very interesting "debate" about what is better-the 80s or the present- for all things the world of sports. It's definintely a must read for some aka, those that were alive in the 80s.

For all that we make about sports fans acting like jackasses, I think it's important to remember that this is nothing new. Today, Detroit Basssketball fans take the cake, becoming notorious for beer throwing and their willingness to fight the players. However, I stumbled accross this Page 2 article about the great city of Cleveland. Well, back in the day, they were hosts and active participants in the most choatic, crazy sporting event to ever take place. It's great- really (may start out slow for some, but hang in there past the background). You won't be dissappointed and I garantee that you won't look at the Detroit brawl the same way ever again.

Finally, I conclude with ANOTHER ESPN Page 2 special. This one talks about the American sports media shapes the tastes of American sports fans (or tries to). The only thing I hated about this was this complete acceptance of being ignorant to other sports from accross the globe. And for good measure, this pretty much sums up how I feel about Tiger Woods.

I just wanted to share some of the interesting things I've read on the web this week. I will probably make this a weekly (yea, right...) little feature and keep it separate from the music and the video. Who really knows though...i may fucking combine them.

If you don't already know (you should be proud of this) that the big ESPN spelling bee is today. I think this is the most fucking ridiculous event on television. I cannot think of anything stupider (is that a word?) freak children with peach fuzz stashes memorizing words that will never make it out of the dictionary other than today. Anyway, this piece about the sideline reporting goddess Erin Andrews and the spelling bee is must read.

Yea, I know its been a little bit but I've doing things- obviously, I've come back stronger. I got some new music for ya, although some of it has been on the web for a minute, none has hit the radio so it's not ancient yet. I seriously cannot shake the hold of Weezy F baby- this song with T-Pain is my new jam-shame or not.

I also wanted to share some videos with ya. First, is the Clip of the Week of the hockey player dropping the trophy (I know its old) but if you haven't seen it its must see.

This one is from Kanye- a follow up mysterious second version of the Flashing Lights video which is WAY better than the original. The style of this video is so badass-you can tell it came from the mind of Kanye.

There I am, standing outside the United Center in the cool Chicago breeze before the show, looking to sell my two extra tickets. Tickets I paid over a hundred dollars for, then paid more for shipping, and after fucking with ebay, lost another $25. While sitting on the concrete ledge next to the statue of 23, I become worried for the first time. This is Kanye fucking West in Chicago, how the fuck are these not selling? The weird part, I am less worried about the financial hit as I am Ye' stepping out to a half empty arena.

After taking a major loss, I entered arena, and my sky high expectations for the show are coming back to earth. The fall faster even faster Lupe hits the stage and the arena is half full.

Quickly, the lights go down, the beat drops and Lupe hits the stage belting "The Coolest" lyrics. Aside from the high school girls who are dressed like it's a homecoming dance, the majority of people in the place now the lyrics and the energy is good. Then Nikki Jean hits the stage for "Hip Hop Saved My Life" and "Little Weapon." Then Lupe flows right into the Chi-town anthem "Go Go Gadget Flow" and the crowd finally seems fully into it. For the next ten minutes the arena is crazy as Lupe busts out with throwback "Kick Push" and new gem "Paris, Tokyo." The tempo was great, but then a lot of the momentum was killed when Lupe brings out fellow F&F members Crash Dummie for "He Say She Say." The energy is restored somewhat when Lupe welcomes Matthew Santos to the stage for "Fighters" and reaches an all time high as the entire arena sings along with "Superstar" then fittingly, finishes off his major hometown performance with "Daydreamin'."

After Lupe, I'm definitely all warmed up for Kanye, but he doesn't hit the stage for another couple hours. After each performer was a significant break while the stages with transformed. For Lupe, the stage was raw, just some flashing lights and a mic. For N.E.R.D, a large five piece screen is assembled, then for Rihanna a mountain backdrop with neon lighted snowcaps, and for Ye', shit got ridiculous (more on that later).

N.E.R.D hit the stage and went balls out going absolutely crazy for a solid 45 minutes, highlighted by a special surprise dance freestyle by Chris Brown during "Spaz" and their biggest hit "She Wants to Move." Audience participation hit a new high for the night when they brought up a couple lucky young ladies to shake it saltshaker style on stage, and presumably vie for the title of top groupie after exit stage left.

At this point in the show I'm feeling a little let down because Rihanna is getting ready to hit the stage AND I have to wait 20 minutes to live through it. I decide this a perfect time get a buzz going so I hit the concession stand for a couple brews. Fifteen dollars later (rectum was already sore from gas and parking) I'm steadily working on that buzz. When I return to the arena bowl a fight breaks out and I wonder why we all cannot live in peace (stupid muthafuckers).

Rihanna comes out and for the first time I take a seat and just chill with my beers. Although in my mind she was an afterthought before the show, I was definitely impressed; she commanded the stage and got the crowd going (you know those girls in the dresses) for "Don't Stop the Music," "S.O.S," "Pon Da Replay," that new song and, of course, "Umbrella." Even I found myself saying "damn, I never realized how hot this was" when Pon Da Replay came on. I was finally able to see what people saw in the song, particularly why it made the clubs go crazy. Don't get it twisted though, my ass stayed in my seat- which is a lot more than I can say for a lot of "men" in the place. Grown ass men singing and dancing to "Umbrella" was definitely the low point of the evening.

But fuck all that, Kanye is about to hit the stage. Anticipation builds as the crew assembles the stage behind a giant (but not big enough) black curtain. With each passing minute the crowd is getting more restless and then the lights drop and the curtain comes up.

The stage is now a fully transformed version of itself that Lupe preformed on just hours earlier. A giant video screen the length is covering the back wall. The sides of the stage are now rolling hills from another planet, and the center stage is transparent glass that reflects the images from the video screen toward the crowd. Oh yea, its on a hydraulic and moves during the show.

The smoke guns blast away while video images of stars and flashing lights get the crowd going bananas. Then Ye' appears and wastes no time opening up with "Good Morning." He swiftly moves another Graduation jam, "I wonder" before taking back to "Heard 'em Say" before his imaginary spaceship crashes named Jane (really, when I heard I thought it was kinda corny; but trust me it wasn't at all) onto an unknown planet. After the crash, he transitions nicely to "Through the Wire" which was written following a major car accident. The rest of the show was mixed just as beautifully, weaving through new classics like "Cannot Tell Me Nothin'," "Stronger," and "Homecoming" with older favorites like "Golddigger" and "Jesus Walks" until finishing with "Touch the Sky" which included Lupe running out for this third verse and finishing off, exhausted, with "now let me end my verse right where the horns are like, uhhh."

I honestly said to myself that "this is the best moment of the show" probably 25 times. First, I still couldn't believe how therapeutic screaming "cannot wait til I get my money right" was, then it was the chills sent down my spine when I heard bum, bum, ba da bum as Jesus walked through the United Center. This was until I heard twenty thousand singing "I go for mine, I got to shine, now throw your hands up in the sky." Of course, how could this top "Hey, Mama" or "Homecoming" (the ad-libbing "And if you don’t know by now, I’m talkin’ bout CHI-TOWN, It's my town, CHI-town was so sick) or "Stronger." Whatever the best moment was, I forgot every single bullshit problem I have, I was inspired to "go for mine" and do so shining, and I was exhausted like it had been me on the stage.

I've said this a lot lately and I mean it. It was the best concert I've ever been to and ever think that I will attend. It set the bar so high, the record that will never be broken. It was hip hop mixed with theater, as Ye' carried the audience through the dramatic storyline of which every detail included and felt like it came right from Kanye. Finally, after much thanks to his band, and the fans, Kanye dropped one last surprise on us- free books for all those who attended, perfectly titled- Thank You, and Your Welcome.

Hey there! It's been awhile (for no particular reason) I know. But I just wanted to let know know that I didn't forget about you. Anyway, it's show and tell time.

It's officially less than two days until I go to the Glow in the Dark tour featuring Ye, Lupe and N.E.R.D. in Chicago. Obviously, I cannot wait and I'll definitely be bringing a full report back. From what I've heard the special effects are crazy and this being the first time back in Chicago, Ye has to be doing something special. Hopefully the raps can match (I know live rap usually sucks) but I've got huge expectations for this one. This youtube video doesn't help to lower my expectations either.

In the spirit of the Glow in the Dark tour I got some new stuff with Lupe Fiasco. This Bun B and Lupe track is called Swing On 'Em. Lupe's verse is his typical amazing and something tells me that this summer the beat is gonna grow on me. Also, this is one of my favorite new jams from Crooked I featuring Akon called Big Dreams. Seriously, you didn't forget about Akon's hook prowess did you? Finally, I know in the last entry I posted Put On, which featuring Kanye stealing T-Pain's voice synthesizer and rapping, well, I think Ye passed it on to Usher. This track is called What's Your Name featuring Wil.I.am. I only post this because I know it will blow the fuck up and feel obliged to (and so what if i sing along when it does).

Also, there's a couple new Nas joints floating around the internet. The first one is TRE' Williams featuring Nas called I See You Coming and the second is off the new album no longer titled Nigger, called, you guessed it, N.I.G.G.E.R. (The Slave & The Master). Here's a new cut from Nappy Roots called Good Day. I know it's not gonna be everyone's cup of tea but I enjoy it, especially the last verse (even with the kids on the hook Scott). Finally, a song I've been bumpin' like crazy lately is The Dream's I Luv your Girl. Well's here's a remix to it featuring Fabolous (not Jeezy, no typo) who fuckin' kills it. Maybe most important is TI's jam No Matter What. Just download it, you don't even have to listen to it first.

The NBA has finally reached the conference finals and as I type this the Laker's and Spurs are playing in game one. Being an official member of the I hate everything San Antonio Spur club, I just wanted to post this masterpiece on how the world is not a good place when the Spurs are in the finals, coming to us care of the blog FanIQ.

Now it's time for a little ESPN bashing. The Stanley cup finals starts this Saturday, yet the only angle ESPN could find for a hockey story this week was a story about how hockey fans are backwoods, blood-thirsty tyrants who only desire fights. This pisses me the fuck off as a hockey fan and once again, the whole network can blow me, I'm not even going to post it. Hopefully the get the email I sent to the Ombudsman. Oddly enough, I'm not the only one that has an issue with ESPN.com Page 2's very own Bill Simmon's (the very enjoyable Sports Guy) has issue with his employer, who's cramping his style and trying to change it a la Stu Scott. Spring Cleaning!

What up world?

Real soon turned into a week...I know, so the fuck what. Anyway, it's time to do a little spring cleaning from this past week.

First off, the first round of the NBA playoffs are wrapping up and the second round is tipping off tonight. Very big congrats to the dirty birds of the ATL on forcing a game seven. Nothing bothers me more when experts on TV not giving a team a chance- because their so in love with a player or team. Also, the Hornets are on to round two. I've been pulling for the Hornets, but against the Spurs, I am the biggest Hornets fan north of the Mason Dixon Line.

Also, I just heard some new music from Young Jeezy and Kayne West called Put On. Just the names on the track warrant checking it out. Speaking of Kanye, he's currently in the middle of the massive Glow in the Dark tour, which I will be checking out personally in Chicago in exactly 20 days. Obviously, I cannot wait for that shit.

The Roots also dropped their new Rising Down album on Tuesday. I bought the itunes version on and its been on rotation all week. Check out for free here.

People have been raving about Miss April getting locked down by Nick Cannon- who's resume is pretty impressive- so i'll have to give Nick credit.

In politics Hilary and Obama are campaigning here in Indiana. I'm gonna try to go to see Obama if he's back in South Bend the next two days.

So tomorrow is the banquet to honor the 2007-2008 Xavier Musketeers. Which is a big deal in of itself, but made even bigger for me for a couple of reasons. One, I'm going to be in attendence which was made possible by reason #2. That being that I decided to make a video for the boys to show them how much I appreciated everything they did this season and while I never intended it to be seen by anymore than my close friends I showed it to some of the powers that be at X and they liked it so much that it will be shown at the banquet! So if you are going then you will be able to see what I did, but if you don't happen to be so lucky, I posted it on youtube so that everyone would get the chance to see it if they wanted to. New Music (and more!)

According to the mouth of Mike Vick, "everyone that knows me knows how I get down." Well, the same goes for me. If you know me, you know that my list of complaints with the ESPN television channel is no short list. Well, the last two nights it just got a little longer. The past two nights I begrudgingly tuned into ESPN to watch some baseball (despite the Red Sox being on both nights). Funny enough, ESPN seems to have sold some time during baseball telecast to Mariah Carey to plug the new album. Yes, thats right, either Joe Morgan and Orel Hershiser are huge fans or ESPN and Mariah have teamed up to sell albums. You already know we love us some Mariah, but I wish she picked a better running mate than the world wide loser.

Sticking to baseball I want to elaborate on my friend and colleagues' words about the sad state of affairs in the Yankee/Red Sox rivalry. This article describes the Yankee's developing a middle child complex and how all other crimes in the BX are solved.

Back to ESPN- the leader has been a bit quiet on the NFL draft coverage this year compared to the absurd amount of coverage the two previous years. However, this coverage really makes a case for a Pulitzer. Check out the similarities between great journalism and great fictional products here.

Also I have some new music to share with ya. Here is a new one from the Youngbloodz (yes them) called Ridin Thru Atlanta. I like the beat a lot, its a perfect song to listen to, well, while riding in the car. If your not sick of Usher's Love in this Club yet, check out the remix featuring T.I. The King's verse definitely kills it, especially the smack the rear line. With all the name drops Mariah's been getting on the website, I feel obligated to share a song- it's called Migrate with T-Pain. It's alright. My favorite song of the group is from Jaheim and Keyshia Cole called I've Changed. I used to find Ms. Cole real annoying, but her skills have definitely grown on me. She's one of the most talented females in contemporary urban music. This is the jam. Lastly, this song called OG (Slow Love) from Slow Pain is worth checking out for the beat and the sampling.

Its been reported that Killer Mike and Big Boi are on better terms now that Killer Mike left the label (to start his own) and now knows how hard it is. However, I want to throw this quote aboutn self independence from Killa out there because I absolutely love it. Big Mike says "If you have a boss, and you don't like your boss, fire your boss, and be a boss! If you don't have an idea, lay down, develop a dream, wake up, have a vision, get to the money. Feed your immediate family; provide jobs in your community. Do something instead of doing nothing. I do not pledge my allegiance to dope. I do not pledge my allegiance to some funky job. In hoops, Michael Beasley decided to go get paid and enter the NBA draft. Despite being a garunteed top four pick, I don't see im being that great. Maybe it's that he has a that weird Delonte West look, but he's never really impressed me. I foresee a lot of posterizations lets just say that. Also, Carmelo Anthony was arrested on suspicion of DUI this morning. This kind of pisses me off because he's a great players and does a lot of great things off the court, yet, this is the crap (stop snitching) is what the media reports and its killing the image of a great athlete who could be special.

Alright that's it.....I'm fed up with the bullshit. I love baseball to death, don't get me wrong, but if I hear one more thing about bullshit curses or voodoo or anything to that effect involving specifically the Spankees, Red Sox, or Cubs....I'm going to fucking kill someone.

It wasn't enough that the Red Sox won the World Series last fall which led to all the talk of "for the second time in 86 years, blah, blah, blah", we began this year on the 100th year anniversary of the last time the North Side Chicago team won the World Series. So while it shouldn't mean a fucking thing for the most part, because it is the lowly Cubs, we are forced to hear that this is a team that had mild success last year, added a herolded Japanese star , and is poised to break out of the dreaded Curse of the Billygoat. So what it's been a fuckin CENTURY since this franchise won it all. I refuse to believe it has anything to do with a damn billy goat! And just because its the 100 year mark can the so called experts please stop predicating that they will win it all?!

Of course I could have bitched about that a while ago as the season is now 3 weeks old......which leads me to the NEWEST pile of horseshit. The almost curse of the Boston t-shirt. So on Friday of last week, reports come out of New York that some dickhead construction worker decided he was going to try to put a curse on the new Yankee Stadium by buring a Red Sox t-shirt in a cement block within the visiting clubhouse. The worker, being a supporter of the so called "Nation", was hoping that the Spankees would run into the same sort of 86 year drought that the Sox ran into and he could claim to be the reason for it. Of course, those within the Spankees organization denied that it could have happened and said this guy was basically full of shit and weren't worried about anything.

So we fast forward to today. Now the shirt has been found and taken out. Now excuse me while I really go off for a second on a few things. First of all, I would usually support something to fuck over the Spankees. Well I wish that ANYONE would kick the shit outta your fat, gay, riding the coattails of my bitch ass father's success, ass and do EVERYONE a favor. This son of a bitch has done nothing, but piss me off since coming on the scene a few months ago when he and his brother took over the day-to-day operations from their piece of shit father. Finally, fuck the Red Sox AND the Spankees. Talk about two pussy ass fuckin organizations who go back and forth like a couple of bitches at the salon on anything and everything. As if a fucking t-shirt would be the reason for any losses. And leave it to a fan of one of these gay teams to believe something so fucking moronic.

First of all, I'm sure you've heard by now that Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles we're "ALLEGEDLY" married in New York City a couple days ago. Now there are rumors of a baby being on the way and shit. Seriously, the lack of respect the media has for privacy is why those two fucking sneak around and still have never pubically admitted to being together.

Also, if you even care about G-Unit anymore there minus one member of their crew. Young Buck has been kicked out/walked out of G-Unit after complaining about never recieving royalities for his album sales. However, reports are that 50 payed a huge ass tax bill of Bucks back in the day, and that was his pay.

Finally, Plies is being sued for $10 million. Hahahaha...like he has that. Fucking Lawyers.

Ok, yesterday I read all about how gas prices are going up more this summer and expect this shit to be up to $4 a gallon. Conviently, the same day of that report, prices jumped 20 cents a gallon. You think it's a conincidence that the government releases a report and the oil companies swiftly respond by raising prices?

Also, I'm really sick of the Olympic torch protestors. Yesterday these nut jobs were climbing the Golden Gate bridge to hang Tibet signs and flags. I won't really get into how these people have nothing better to do on a Tuesday, but looking at the big picture, what did they accomplish other than getting their asses on the news?

Alright kiddies, I'm back on my blog game. I must admit, it took everything I had just to put this post up. Between working, job hunting, new car shopping and involuntary napping (passing the fuck out) after work as well as a mild depression following the Xavier being eliminated from the NCAA tournament, I haven't been in the mood. But, I'm back.

Basically, I want to share some of the interesting things I've seen in the virtual www world out there the past few days- everything from sports to music to bullshit.

In sports the NCAA tournament is the headliner. David's son faced Goliath and the haters last Sunday and came up short thanks to the man. Too bad because the world always needs an underdog to get the people off their asses and make them believe in themselves- shout out to Obama! In the commentary that followed, one blog author had an interesting take, with the most incredible and epic and interesting introduction in the history of language.

The wide world of sports is also grabbing attention for the opening of the baseball season and the NBA playoff situation still being sorted out, thanks to a crazy western conference. Thus, step your knowledge game up. Not to be overlooked, NHL playoffs are coming too. It won't be the same without the boys from the B-Lo tho.

Well, this is kinda sports. Prolly 70 percent sideshow, 30 percent sports. However, it's 100 percent must see. Check out what Dennis Rodman and his agent are up to these days.

Finally, big news out of the naaati- Chad Johnson is unhappy. How could Bengals fans not know is was coming? I think Helen Keller saw it coming. Anyway, I think its sad that ESPN is in the business of instigating this crap, but shit, it makes for great awkward TV moments.

In music, I found this real interesting. It makes a great point how hip hop constantly neglects its roots and is constantly searching for the next big thing, and then cannot wait for them to fall off. My opinion: stop recycling the same crap...and the radio is killing hip hop.

I know none of this is new, but I've really been bumpin G.O.O.D Music's Consequence lately. You need to get familiar. Check these out. Grammy Family is still one of the hottest videos.

I know my constituent will get bitchy because it involves Canada, but I thought it was interesting anyway. I must admit that I'm loving TheBoss by Rick Ross and T-Pain. Seriously, how did I end up liking Rick Ross. Something about his booming ass voice that just gets you jacked up. However, a couple more videos/pictures of him shirtless- that career will go away real fast. Fucking disgusting Rosssss...put the bitties away.

Well the NCAA Tourney has finally arrived and I couldn't help but think about how truly great it is. I mean seriously, there are fewer things in sports that rival how great the road to a national champion is in college basketball. The funniest thing about it is that I've spent the better part of my life not realizing its greatness.Yeah, that's right....I said it. I didn't get into this whole March Madness thing until I got to college. Which no one needs to tell me is very sad and pathetic, especially for as big a sports fan as I am. I mean, I have my reasons (as unexcuseable as they may be), which mainly revolve around the fact that I'm just a pro guy. Some people are college fans, some people are pro fans and I am definitely the latter for the most part. Anyway, I'm on board with it thanks to my alma mater and only college team I care about winning, which is Xavier.

But, I digress. All of this greatness surrounding March Madness really got me thinking........is this the best playoff/way of determining a champion there is? Not just in college sports, but in every sport? I'll start off by saying that it is the most intense and wide open of any sport which is it's main attraction. No other sport can offer as many games in a short period of time with as many teams having a chance to win it all like college basketball can, but how does it stack up overall against all the sports that people give a shit about.

Now when I say sports people give a shit about I'm only going to include the big 4 in the pro sports (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL) and college basketball and football. Other sports don't generate enough interest or converstation and basically these are the only ones I care to involve because I could give a rat's ass about any other sports and this is my blog entry. Each one has its pros and cons and I'm not gonna pretend to be an expert on the NHL because it made the conversation by the seat of its pants, but let the debate begin.

I'll start with the NHL because like I said, I don't know all that much about it. What I do know is that playoff hockey is the most intense hockey you will ever see. I can count on both hands how many hockey games I've actually witnessed in my lifetime, but the ones that I have seen have generally been of the playoff/finals variety and they are very fast paced with extreme tension. The knock on hockey comes in the form of the length of the playoffs and eventually champion being crowned. I mean the damn playoffs start sometime in the spring and take about 3 months to wrap up. Entirely too long to be sitting around trying to have someone raise the Cup.

Moving to the NBA, we have a system very similar to the NHL. The games are much more intense than anything the regular season can offer and teams actually play defense for the first time all year. It makes for really exciting basketball by some of the best athletes in the world. Like the NHL though, the playoffs are WAY TOO FUCKING LONG! Not to mention, just about every team in the damn NBA gets into the playoffs. It's not a good thing when its easier to rattle off teams that didn't make the playoffs than it is to name those who did.

Then theres the MLB playoffs and the World Series. Similar to the previous 2 in that there are mulitple game series, but unlike the other 2, things fit into a nice little one month package and you aren't subjected to watching series after series after series. The problem with MLB though, is that the season is so damn long that many people are burned out by the time the meaningful games begin and have less patience when football games overlap.

The last pro sport up for conversation, the NFL, has arguably the best championship game of any sport. The Super Bowl is unmatched in popularity and really seems to be ultimate way of determining a champion. Of course there is the downside of it being a 1 and done format throughout the playoffs and Super Bowl which lends itself to a team not having a good day and losing an entire seasons worth of goodwill on one night. More often than not, the best teams win, but there's always the chance they might not.

Moving to college sports we have football. This system is fucked. Period. The BCS is more confusing than honors level calculus on some days and it leaves itself open to be questioned by the fans and media, which is never a good thing when you are trying to determine a winner that everyone can at least say they were the best team in a legit world. I really can't defend much of what goes on in college football because more often then not, the system screws everything up......add to that the fact that you can have a "co-national champion" and yeah, basically that just can't be tolerated.

Finally there is college basketball. A 65 team single elimination tourney. No lack of exitement here as it allows for the most upsets of any of the other sports. The one knock that it does have though is the fact that the exitement is all stored in the opening rounds and actually goes down after that. By the time the national championship rolls around, unless your school is a participant, it is a very lackluster ending to an exciting road getting there.

Really each of them has their own flaws and clearly none of them are perfect. Being the bias pro fan that I am, I will have to give the final nod to the NFL as playoff football is both intense and leads up to the grand daddy of them all, the Super Bowl. The NFL regular season also adds to the excitement as just about every game means something and winning games in the NFL is arguably the hardest thing to do in sports. All that being said, March Madness is a beast all its own. Even though it tails off to a somewhat anticlimactic ending, the involvement of so many teams and the ability for seemingly anyone to win it all make it one of the best. I'm just glad that even though I got on board late, that I did get on board.

Gather round kiddies, It's story time. It goes like this- this morning I was rolling down the street on my way to work. Passing the 7-Eleven I noticed that gas was $3.23 per gallon. About the current (over inflated) national average. Then at lunch I passed that same gas station. The same fucking gas was 3.43. A 20 cent jump and a 6 percent increase.

Disclaimer: Before I really start to bitch, I don't want any fuckers coming on the board to point out how Europe pays way more, or that you filled up for $5 this morning.

Prices for everything are high in those countries (and are near inflation). Also, they are less affected by it because those countries are smaller, and drive way less.

In September 2003, the price of crude oil under $25 a barrel on the NYMEX. Adjusted for inflation, oil prices remained this way since the mid 1980's. Today, Oil reached $109.20 a barrel on the exchange. This price is the new inflation adjusted record high, surpassing the record in March 1981. See the chart below.

The chart above shows the Average annual Gas prices in nominal terms (what you actually pay) and in inflation adjusted terms (red line). In 2008, the prices in current dollars continued to rise, and, is now the all time high. The price of oil from rose from $20.37 on January, 1, 2002 to $100 January 1, 2008 represents a 491 percent growth rate in six years. That's a little more than the 3 percent rate.

Are we supposed to believe that a weak dollar, fears of natural disasters and middle east tensions, and day to day happenstance are driving the prices that hard- especially when supplies are at a 15 year high. Meanwhile, Bush's (took office in 2001- look at the chart) oil buddies are raking it in, recording record profits in the billions. They know they won't be around in a few years, so as far as their concerned, they're being opportunistic.

I'm tired of getting fucked. Aside from driving to work and making necessary trips (grocery store etc), I'm done driving. You should be too. Sadly, Bush and friends knows most American's are just as stupid as he is, so they won't stop driving.

Honestly this is it. This is the ultimate there is no Santa, Easter bunny, and toothfairy moment all rolled into one. There is outrage and then there is OUTRAGE.....this falls into the latter. The name of an American icon is now for sale. What is wrong with the world when Wrigley isn't even safe? I know that in this "make every last dime you possibly can before you get out" world that we live in when it comes to sport would not be limited to the less glamourous B.O.B. and Pac Bell (yes that's STILL what I refer to them as), but that makes two stadiums that will have changed names that never should have been allowed to be touched.

Not only is the hallowed Wrigley now up for sale, in an "in case you missed it moment" the Indians no longer play at Jacobs Field, but rather the uttlerly ridiculous Progressive Field. Its bad enough that stadium names are being made for sale and obviously it isn't a new phenomenon, but this announcement clearly states that no name is safe. And what the fuck are you going to name Wrigley exactly? All State Park? Mastercard Field? Google.com Stadium?!

This isn't just another field. This is fucking WRIGLEY FIELD for god's sake! It's known by baseball fans around the world. The goddamn thing has been standing for almost 100 years and now their dickhead owner decides that the time is right and tradition be damned! Well I say FUCK THAT SHIT! And be prepared Red Sox Nation because they are coming after Fenway next! There's no way that Wrigley is hungout to dry by itself with others out there that are ripe for the picking. I guess my only hope in all of this name buying bullshit is that a place like Yankee Stadium is bought out someday by a really shitty company. That would make me feel a little bit better to see the faggots in pinstripes trot out to "Queer Park at ChicksWithDicks.Com Stadium." I could definitely get on board with that name change, but no matter what, the Cubs will ALWAYS play at Wrigley Field..........fuck whatever sign they put up over it.

Typically, I don't like to insult those who don't have a job, or a source of income, or live on a fixed income. However, in this case, I will.

ESPN and the Sean Salsbury "brand" have annonced their divorce. Just hours after ESPN announced the hiring of former Viking Cris Carter, they announced they were splitsville with another, much shitter Viking. Both sides seem to be coping however.

Sean Salisbury: “I want to thank ESPN for 12 great years of talking football on TV and the radio. I have grown as much as I can at ESPN and decided to expand my horizons. I have created a brand and it’s time to expand into other opportunities in TV, radio, Internet, publishing, movies and public speaking, among others. My resume speaks for itself as a football analyst, and I believe I can talk all sports with the best of them.”

ESPN’s statement: “Sean Salisbury has made many contributions to our efforts for the past 12 years. We thank him and wish him all the best.”

For as much as I cannot stand Salisbury as a human being or a stereotypical "football guy," the one thing I could respect about him was that I thought he knew a lot about all sports. I think he might be better in a non-sport exclusive role (such as Mike and Mike) in more mellow place than ESPN.

This is Officially NBA Week!

I didn't plan on overloading the site with NBA coverage, however, after reading a couple great articles on ESPN.com about the NBA I felt I had to share them.

The first is Jordan's take on the current state of the NBA and how many view the league has changed for the worse, yet the change should be embraced, just as it was when he entered the league. Read This!

The Second is my favorite because, well, it states what I've thought for sometime now. Basically, that the "image problem" with the NBA is really false perception by uninformed fans and media, and is really based off of racial sterotyping. Makes sense when you consider how many "basketball fans" are so anti-NBA. Check it out!

The last was a nice piece by Bill Simmons about the New Orleans All Star Weekend. His normal All Star weekend piece is more a crazy story about his long weekend (which I'm not against at all- there always a great read), however this was a commentary on the state of the Crescent City and what the NBA means to it. Also touches on David Sterns impact on the NBA and his legacy. You know you love it.

The Future Is Blu

Well the battle is over. And the winner is.......Blu-ray! Yes, the not so much publicized battle between Toshiba's HD-DVD format and Sony's Blu-ray format seems to have come to a sudden end. Mostly behind closed doors for the past 5 years, Sony and Toshiba have been going toe-to-toe in the battle for the next generation DVD format. In a battle that was not nearly as vicious nor well known as the videotape format war between Sony's Betamax and JVC's VHS , Sony slowly pulled away in this one and can now move forward in the production of their product.

Many of you might not have even know there was a battle going on because for one, the DVD format is still relatively new. Add to that the fact that it is still a form of compact disc rather than an entirely new medium and the confusion is easily understandable. But for those of you who have known about said battle this may come as a slight surprise, especially if you are one of the million or so owners of an HD-DVD player.

That's because until recently the battle was very neck and neck. Although Sony had locked up big names to back them such as 20th Century Fox, Walt Disney Corp., and Apple, Toshiba also had big players backing them such as Universal and Paramount Pictures. In addition to those names, Toshiba also made a big splash late last year when Dreamworks (which is owned by Paramount) announced that it would switch from Blu-ray to HD-DVD. This was a major blow in the battle when Dreamworks is responsible for tons of kids movies, such as Shrek, which make up a lot of the home movie sales. Add in the fact that the average price for a Blu-ray player is around $500 and the average price for an HD-DVD player is around $300 and its easy to see why things were fairly even between the two.

Then on January 4th of this year, what could have been the knockout punch in this battle, the last major studio to produce movies in both formats, Warner Brothers, joined forces with Sony and decided to exclusively release their titles on Blu-ray.

Looking back on things, it seems to many that Sony's decision to make Blu-ray the format on which the PS3 would operate, one of the most important in the battle. Although many HD-DVD players have been sold during the battle, many more PS3 units have been sold and the advertising for the Blu-ray that has come with it seems to have tilted things in Sony's favor.

All of this means good things for us the conusmers as we no longer have to wonder which format will prevail. The death of HD-DVD will have the same impact as the death of Betamax in that rather than wondering which one to buy, things are settled and we can move forward. While both formats have their advantages and disadvantages, much like VHS and Betamax, Blu-ray will prove to serve us well. Ironically though, one of the best movies of 2007 will be released on HD-DVD tomorrow on the same day that Toshiba is expected to announce that it is bowing out.

I haven't had much of a vested interest in who won this battle since I heard about it around the time it started. Although I own a PS3, I have yet to purchase a single Blu-ray movie and only own one because it came with it when I purchased it (Talladega Nights). Am I glad that Blu-ray won the battle? Sure, means I don't have to drop any more money if I choose to purchase an HD movie. But for right now as long as DVDs are still around, I'm in no rush to drop $15-$20 more on a Blu-ray movie. Besides, as the owner of a 50-inch HDTV I can safely say that while Blu-ray does offer an amazing TV watching experience, not all movies require such technology to be enjoyed. I feel as if the whole HD experience is best used for sports and movies with tons of special effects. So its safe to hop on board with Blu-ray, but there's still no immediate rush to go out and get one.

Not only did we wish Lupe Fiasco a happy 26th yesterday, it was NBA All-Star weekend and how fitting is it that the greatest man to ever touch a basketball turns 45 today, the same day as the All-Star game!? This weekend also marks the release of the Air Jordan XXIII which is rumored to be the last enstallment of the official Air Jordan line of shoes. While that may mark yet the end of another era in the Jordan legacy, words cannot express the manlove that I have for his Airness. When it comes to politics, I confess I’m relatively apathetic. Okay, very apathetic. This really comes from a belief that I have the greatest influence on my success or failure, not the government. Before all you politics loving, red verses blue, 15 scrolling-bottom line watching, wannabe CNN pundit freaks rush to judge, I know the power the government has, particularly the President has, and mine is still greater when it comes to my life.

Regardless, I recognize the country, as a whole needs change- war, the economy, imminent energy crisis, social security- the problems are major and the list seemingly endless. Now that it’s 2008, let the countdown to begin to the end of one of the most storied (for all the wrong reasons of course) Presidencies in American history.

We all want change right? Sure, everyone is riding the “were for change” bandwagon real hard these days. But really, there is only one candidate that will bring change: Barack Obama.

As much as the democrats and republicans argue about policies and issues they are essentially the same; dishonest politicians interest in their own agendas. I don’t trust them at all which makes it easier to be apathetic to the whole thing. However, Obama is not your normal politician. He doesn’t sell out to special interest groups for the sake of large campaign donations. Ever wonder how the oil companies have done so well financially under Bush? Also, he runs a clean campaign, noting running to the media to rip the other candidates. When the other candidates try a low blow- he doesn’t even acknowledge it with a response. Cleary, he’s not here to bullshit with his colleagues (if their even worthy of being called that).

It makes me sick to watch some of the political bullshit on television where they tell us what the issues are. Do you realize that these are the same issues as in 2004 and in 2000? What does that say about our country? Obviously, nothing is getting fucking done in D.C? There is a reason for that.

There is no major policy change because there isn’t change in the people we elect. A Clinton or a Bush has occupied the White House since 1989- 19 years the same two families have yielded power in this country. Obviously, for change we need new ideas and new people. People who have had power for a long time are not concerned with change; they are comfortable with the way shits going. So instead of working for change, they focus on keeping others from getting power so they can keep theirs. Old money will always try to deter new money from gain power.

So to wrap up my political diatribe I want to leave you with one message. In November, don’t just get out and vote, make the right fucking choice too- so were not talking about the same shit four years from now.

I believe the picture says it all, but in case you missed the subtleness of it, Happy Hallmark Day everyone! Yes another Hallmark yearly special is upon us. I refuse to refer to today as a holiday for many reasons, but most importantly that its focused around candy, cards, and flowers, but I digress. Valentine's Day is mostly for the ladies, but the guys deserve to be shown some love too. Maybe since we go all out for most of the day, you can do us a few things to pay us back a little. Like.......

Look your best. Sounds simple right? Yeah, well you'd be surprised how often chicks take this for granted. If we gotta go all out and come up with an assortment of different ways to make you happy, the least you can do is look the part. Most of chicks don't need this little reminder, but some of you like to take a day off and this ain't one of them.

Be grateful. Nothing worse than a guy putting in the time to think about what you might like and doing something special for you, only to have you shit on it. Somehow, chicks can always find something to bitch about. I could travel the universe to find the biggest diamond ever seen and still hear how the bitch doesn't sparkle enough. Are you kidding me?! A simple thank you is all that we require for our services and it seems like sometimes its like pulling teeth to get a chick to say that.

Cook dinner. Really want to do something to make a dude happy? Simple, just cook us dinner. You know we struggle in the kitchen with anything with anything away from the microwave so take that stress off of us and cook for us. Doesn't have to be anything fancy. A nice steak, baked potato, maybe a salad. That alone is enough for us to call it a good Valentine's Day and really you cook all the time so this ain't that big a deal for you.

Put out. Yeah I said it! If the other 90% of the day was all about you, then give it up without makin us feel like we're asking you to cure cancer. I'm not saying you have to go all Jenna Jameson on us either, but doing something you usually don't or shaking things up a little won't hurt you either.

Make the 15th about us. Alright so the "holiday" is over. Now all we really want is to be left the fuck alone. In fact, if the day before was all about you and you didn't get a chance to do any of the aforementioned tasks, now is a good time to catch up on some of them.

Basically what it comes down to is that it really ain't that hard to make us happy. Very little money involved and even less time. Do all or a combination of a few of the things discussed here and you'll make sure we don't cuss you out for at least a few weeks.

In case you hadn't heard, YAHOO! stiffarmed Mircrosoft in their most recent attempt to continue their Nazi-like domination of the computer world. YAHOO! decided that $44.6 billion was a lowball offer (which it was) by the Bill Gates Juggernauts and are awaiting the next offer which is expected to up the ante.

Between the sorry ass reveiws/returns that Mircosoft's Vista operating system has recieved and Microsoft's decision that they would push forward with it anyway and now this, Bill Gates' empire has taken quite a few blows in recent months. I know you Mac fanboys just love seeing this, but seriously besides the mildly entertaining ad campaign you've had going for about the last year, what exactly does a Mac offer(this guy about sums that up)? Nothing except a pretty paper weight, but could these recent stumbles on the part of the Empire be a momentum swing for Apple?

Hopefully, that doesn't turn out to be the case because there is a reason Bill Gates has become the billionaire he is. Most noteably is the fact that Windows has kicked the shit out of anything anyone else has had to offer, but it's also because until recently he always went for the kill with anything he has attempted to accomplish. While I'm sure he'll find a way to get the deal done, it isn't a good look to have a company like YAHOO! laugh in your face and tell you to try again when it comes to offering up some dough. Not that YAHOO! is any slouch, but when Google came along, well let's just say the current king has yet to give back the throne.

It is nice to see the little guy (YAHOO! in this case) though stand up for itself and wait to get what they feel like they can/should. Too often we see big business come in and buy everything up for much less than its worth and then turn around and make tons of money off it while we the consumers suffer. Here's hoping that the deal works out for both parties and that we (the consumers) are the biggest winners in the end.

In the quest to recognize ballin ass shit here at EVOLUTION, we leave no stone unturned. That's why when I stumbled upon this little piece of heaven, I couldn't help but spread the news. If you haven't heard there is a math teacher out there that everyone can get on board with. The short of it is that a professor at the University of Pennsylvania, believes that fractions should be done away with! The man actually stood on campus and proclaimed "down with fractions!" His argument is that while once useful for by-hand calculations, in the digital age that we live in, fractions no longer have a usefulness. The only question I got is, Where the fuck was this guy at when I was out here struggling through the likes of fractions and other pointless shit we spend time on in math class!?!?

Now before some of you get your panties in a bunch and start hating on this man, he isn't saying that fractions should be done away with all together, but rather that it shouldn't be taught to the lower levels of math, which I take to be those of us who aren't going on to deal with a great deal of math in our everyday lives outside of basic day-to-day addition and subtraction. Of course there are plenty of haters out there that think he's crazy, but it preaches something fundamental that I've been saying for quite sometime, especially when it comes to math, why waste our time with it if we are never going to use it?

It seems like we spend enough of our life learning things that we will never use and if we can spend that time specializing on something we care about and will use more often, doesn't that make a little more sense in the long run? Don't get me wrong, I'm not out here advocating the dumbing down of our society because Lord knows we got enough of that thanks to the likes of BET, Hollywood, and our government which witholds way more than we know but still, if we are going to be masters our resepective domains, we should push aside some less important shit and get our minds right on what we are good at.

Grammy Thoughts

Last night the music world celebrated it’s highest achievers at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Overall, I wish I had those three and a half hours of my life back. Over the course of the event, they gave away maybe 10 awards- and half of those were lifetime achievement awards for people no one remembers. The rest of the time was filled with sleeper musical acts.

The one exception was Kanye West- as always he did his thing on stage. Opening his set with stronger- Kanye appeared on a darkened stage only visible by the lights on his suit. Moments later, his “stronger” glasses light up the room and he ripped up the stage. He topped this with his rendition of Hey, Mama. Tears filled the room and everyone was moved. He represented well for hip-hop, as always.

However, that doesn’t mean the Grammy snobs didn’t do some major hatin. When Kayne stepped to the mic to accept his award for Best Rap Album he barely got a sentence out before they cued up the music. Thank God Kayne checked ‘em on it. While thanking everyone for their support following her death he told the Grammy’s to shut the fuck up-“it would be in good taste to turn off the music.” They did; but the fact that no other artist was given the music was as clear of a sign of disrespect as you can get.

The Grammy people need to wake the fuck up. People watch the Grammy’s because of Kayne; no one is watching for Vince Gill or Ringo Star. Furthermore, the event is promoted using Ye’s name so I thought it was a disgrace how he was disrespected. I thought that was disgraceful and hope he ignores the award show from now on. He needs to stop viewing a Grammy as excellence in music because clearly it’s not. Just love how Album of the Year will never go to a rapper.

The Afterthoughts

I think Amy Winehouse has some good songs but she gets way too much love. She’s a fucking raging mess but that’s Hollywood for ya. Listening to her acceptance speech was fuckin painful as her moves on stage.

Side note: Cyndi Lauper presented an award that Winehouse won and cheer. I the drug addict hot mess rehab ward is not as lonely as I thought.

Tina Turner dancing next to Beyonce had to stop. I know she’s in her fifties and hasn’t been on stage in a while but she should not have tried those moves next to Beyonce. I don’t blame her for this. I blame the Grammy organizers who try these dumb experiments.

Speaking of experiments The Time (who?) with Rihanna. What? That was retarded. I must admit the mirror part was great. I laughed and applauded that.

Aretha Franklin is a beast. I was really afraid that her shoulder strap was going to pop.
I thought the Foo Fighters were good. I’m not a huge Foo fan but I was entertained and they did a good job. The “My Grammy Moment” thing was lame though.

Kid Rock was funny with that old lady. He did a good job doing that old song I thought.

How does Alicia Keys have so many different looks? She looked like two completely different people again last night. Her performances didn't dissappoint.

The Beatles Tribute was way too long and boring. I liked the end with Let It Be though.

Only Chris Brown could pull of that suit. As always, Jay-Z’s suit was on point too.

Dear New England Fans,

First of all, I’d like to thank you for all of your support that you showed to my butt buddies and I throughout the 07-08 NFL season. Many of you didn’t know there was an NFL team located in New England until this year and even more of you have only been fans since we cheated our way to our first Super Bowl victory in 2001. It takes a lot of dedication to be a fan of a team that runs up the score on other teams, but you guys stuck with us and made it happen.
Now I know a lot of you are disappointed that we couldn’t finish this season with a Lombardi Trophy, you aren’t the only ones. Ever since the loss in Super Bowl XLII we’ve been bombarded by questions and honestly I can only answer a few of them. 19-0? Nope, we got it taken to us. Best team ever? Not evening the discussion. Dynasty? On hold. Best quarterback/head coach tandem ever? Not with a loss in a Super Bowl on the resume. Biggest disappointment in NFL history? You bet, ya. How does it feel? Worse than the head of the moron who tattooed his head to look like my helmet.
I think the thing that hurts the most is that we got exposed. How so you ask? Well we ran around all year preaching how humble we were. How much of a class act we were. How we were playing the game the only way we knew how and what some perceived as cockiness was clearly just confidence you need to succeed in this game at a high level. Well, so much for that. We went out before the Super Bowl and trademarked 19-0. We had a smug grin on our faces all year that got slapped off. And did you notice how visibly rattled I was when it was apparent that things weren’t going our way, almost as if the true little bitch in me was coming out, yeah that’s because it was. The Giants showed the few people we had still tricked into believing that we were humble that we were nothing, but smug ass little bitches who thought we were untouchable.
Let me make one thing clear. The Giants deserve all the credit in the world. They came in with the confidence, they put in the time, and most importantly they believed that they could win this game and that’s just what they did. But that was our Super Bowl and I want it back! I mean, a pretty boy with the perfect ass chin like me just doesn’t lose Super Bowls and this just isn’t fair.
I guess that about covers everything, but I just want to say one last thing. Some of you may believe that Coach Belichick left the field early and that he was being unprofessional and a sore loser. Well, how would you feel if your career was being questioned because you taped a Super Bowl walkthrough and got found out. If you knew your legacy was going to be questioned and this Super Bowl loss would not only magnify that, but showed that you really weren’t humble, wouldn’t you be a little upset. That’s my boo and I won’t let anyone speak badly of him, so lay off the guy.
Anyway, I’m off to go get plastic surgery to correct the massive bone structure damage that my face suffered after Eli slapped me with his dick during the game. See you next year.

While at a Paris Hilton hosted pre-super bowl party for 944 Magazine, 50 Cent was on stage (most likely preforming). However, spot light loving Paris Hilton stepped on stage and fucked up his shine and 50 was having none of that, telling Paris to "get the fuck off the stage." Apparently, now that 50 is an established star, he's sick of all the groupie love.

Sadly, the story took a turn for the worst. Unforetunately, the G-Unit camp is denying the incident. According to G-Unit lacky DJ Whoo Kid, "It's no way we would kick Paris Hilton off the stage on her birthday. We ain't that heartless. I know 50 hates Ja Rule and Fat Joe, but he ain't that heartless to throw Paris Hilton ... off the stage. ... Somebody called me and asked me if Paris got kicked off. I was like, 'Huh?' She was dancing the whole time. She was having a good time. We hung with her afterwards. ... We kick her off her own stage and she's hanging with us? I guess people wanna hear, '50 threw Paris Hilton off the stage.' "

Would Get Rich Or Die Tryin' 50 hang with Paris Hilton? I don't think so. Sadly, this makes perfect sense. Now that 50 is no stranger to the hollywood scene, his music is reflecting that (listen to Massacre and Curtis if you haven't already).

Obviously, as a hip hop icon, I understand your going to meet people who like your shit. I'm not trying to say you need to be an ass to these people. Hip Hop has always been accepting of many races, religions and backgrounds. But you cannot let that change who you are.

I think part of this change in his music is out of fear- the fear of getting called out. Rappers hate to write about being in the steets and the drug game when their clearly not anymore. That's why we there was such a drastic change from GRODT to Massacre.

Albums sales reflect this. Kayne outsold 50 big in 2007 because Kayne's music reflect his evolution as an artist and a man.

Jay-Z did this to perfection. 50 needs to take a page out of Jay's book; writing about the being a hip hop icon that is using his hustle skills to get money in other ways. Or he could rap about some intelligent shit for a change, but to do that he would have to stop chillin with Paris.

Super Bowl Success

By now you've heard that there is a football game going on this weekend. As mentioned earlier, this a great opportunity to get together with friends. A party if you will. However, when it comes to being throwing a super bowl party you want to come out looking like a hero, not a goat (compare post football careers of John Elway vs Scott Norwood, wish I didn't have to go there). So here's some helpful guidelines to throwing a championship party.

Obvious:

Stock your fridge: The Super Bowl is a great excuse to eat a ton, maybe even better than one that Thanksgiving, depending on your tastes. So you gotta make sure there is enough chow for everyone at your throw down would be able to pound 687 servings of everything. And if you suck at cooking, you must order in. Just because others will be around doesn't mean it's time to experiment, so just like the former high school tight end who's now 300 lbs. and thinks he can still get play, leave it to the pros. To wash it down, make sure you have a variety of beverages (for the adults and the kiddies). Also, don't be shy about opening up the liquor cabinet. However, if someone get's too sloppy, then it could ruin your party. Just ask Mike and Mike.

Step your TV game up: With the drastic improvements in televisions over the past few years, if you don't have anything bigger than at the very least 36 inches (but still kinda iffy) then don't throw a party. [Important to note at this point: you and two of your closest homies is not one] Anyway, make sure your step that TV game up to at least something LCD or Plasma. Style points if it hangs on a wall.

More Subtle:

I know you want to floss your place to everyone, but make sure shit doesn't get too out of control. You should know everyone that steps in your place, and that doesn't include people your boys say are cool. I know this sounds harsh, but really you don't know them. Sure, they might be great people, but watching football and great people don't always mix. For example, people come by and bring friends but there friends (losers) care more about what's on the discover channel than the game. Then what happens is they either (1) stay silent the whole time then it becomes wierd or (2) try to bring up some shit no one gives damn about, such as the calorie count in your mouth full of cheetos.

When it comes to females (they always get in the door) but you have to make sure their down with football first. You don't want some rebel girl bringing up High School musical and getting the other chicks who used to be down all catty. If this happens, send them to the kitchen to dish- the game is on.

Topping it Off

If your looking to take your party to the next level, what's better than making things interesting. A few small wagers on the game are always fun. So break out the squares or simply place bets on what you think might happen (a qb sack this drive etc.). This way, even if the game is snooze, you'll be wide awake because the cash is flowing. You don't think they do this MJ's house?

Follow these instructions and you too could throw a championship style party this Super Bowl.

HAPPY SUPER BOWL SUNDAY! That is exactly what everyone across the nation would be screaming if my wish were to come true and an 11th national holiday were to be approved. That's right, the Super Bowl is upon us once again and not a moment too soon. The holiest of games, the Mecca of yearly American television events, a home grown American sport at its finest. Oh and the champion of the NFL world is crowned. The 42nd edition of what has become arguably the greatest day intelevision each year, will kick off this Sunday between the G-Men of New York and the New England Patriots.

By now we all know the nauseating storyline of the Patriots looking to become the first team in NFL history to go 19-0 over the course of a single season. While the once lowly Giants come into the game riding a wave of momentum that just over a month ago, seemed laughable.

But who really cares about the matchup? That's the question on a lot of people's minds especially the past few years. The Super Bowl really isn't about that anyway. Let's face it, at this point in the illustrious big game's history its all about what surrounds the game. Unless you are a fan of the teams running around after the ball is finally kicked off (usually about 30 minutes from its listed time) or you can't go a day without gambling, one could probably care less who wins.

This is mostly due to the fact that since 1990, we'vebeen treated to just 7 Super Bowls in which the game actually lived up to the enormous hype that surrounds it. The list includes:

Anyway, I for one believe that the Super Bowl is already such a special day, that the Sunday on which it falls should become a national holiday. If one looks closely, you can already see the parallels it has with many of our other national holidays.
-People come together to celebrate it
-Mass amounts of alcohol, chips, cookies, and other foods are consumed
-Some people end the night excited beyond belief while others wonder if life is worth living
-Government offices are closed
-And millions of dollars are spent leading up to the day, with very little substance to show for it after the fact

Ok, so nobody is rushing to return anything the next day and nobody died fighting for its cause, but you get the idea.

Whether this year's game ends joining the aforementioned list remains to be seen, but what is for certain is that no matter the outcome, it will be the most watched television event this year. The Super Bowl brings people together across America like few other things can. At a time when its hard to find a common bond on anything in this country, I can hardly find issue with that.

The point is, whether you're one of the few left who actually sit down expecting the best game of the year or its the first time you've seen a ball snapped all year, remember that the Super Bowl is an American tradition that deserves to be celebrated as such. So allow me to get my Dr. Seuss on for a moment......Happy Super Bowl Sunday to everyone far and near. Cherish these moments with chips and beer. Get your seat early and don't be late. Celebrate the underdog and for the favorite bring extra hate. No matter the outcome, this thought u must mustn’t forget to bring....unless you bet money or if its your team, the outcome of this game, doesn't mean a damn thing! GO GIANTS!!!!!!

Thanks for hitting up our new blog. Right now it's definitely in its infancy now but I can assure you it's going to grow up quick. Basically, this blog is a forum for people working to better their lives, told from the male point of view. Think of it as Vibe meets Maxim meets ESPN The Magazine. Topics you can expect to read about are sports, music, movies, fashion, politics, money, family; but really, nothing is too off limits- this is the fucking internet.

As a 22 year old graduate of Xavier (the world's greatest) University I realize that I am young and I don't have all the answers. But as they say in the world of journalism, "everyone has a story." So we know if we're lacking, the answers are out there, so this site is an open forum for the exchange of ideas. We just want to get the conversation started.

Best Of Both Worlds

So I finally decided to get into the blogging game. Facebook mania, the insanity that is text messaging, and now this….just a few of the things I’ve put up a good fight against over the years, but in the end it claimed another victim. Who am I, you ask? That’s the same thing I’ve wrestled with while trying not to give into producing a blog of my own. What gives me the right to put my opinion down in words and expect people to give a damn?

The answer I’ve come up with is nothing at all really. I’m just a 23 year old, Xavier University grad from the mean streets of Toledo, Ohio (nothing mean about them if you even know where that’s at). I’ll let my partner in crime fill you in on where he’s coming from, but together we plan to put together the most ballin ass blog you've ever laid eyes on!

Alex and I are much like the title of this entry suggests. Our opinions overlap on many different topics and differ on many more. It’s our backgrounds that have shaped who we are and who we continue to grow into being. We will discuss anything and everything we think is relevant and while neither of us will ever try to speak for the other, I can safely say that everything will be the realest of the real. A black and white perspective on issues that affect every color of people from every walk of life as we continue to evolve into better men. So as a great man once said…. “sit back relax and strap on ya seat belt, you never been on a ride like this before….”
